In the picture, I was holding my creation of a Burmese girl out of a popsicle and some construction paper. At first, I did not know what to make when given the materials. Then I found myself cutting a blouse with the return of my childhood knowledge of making dresses for my dolls. Then to represent a Burmese lady, I wrapped the popsicle with a "robe" called longyi in Burmese. Also all of the putting on the jewels of a necklace and foot chains came to me from how a typical Burmese girl will be dressed up. This creation helped me learn that we make something new based on the knowledge that we already have. This experience of figuring out and constructing a Burmese girl deepened my understanding of how people build their own understanding with the foundation of their previous knowledge. In addition, through the process of inquiry learners proudly come up with a new creation, perspective or understanding that they have never imagined before without this experiment. I include this entry under authentic learning because in this process of creative act my mind was busily engaged; definitely an authentic learning occured.

Creating through Constructing
